NCLEX Nepal - All You Need to Know
NCLEX exam
The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is a computer-adaptive test that nursing graduates must pass to become licensed in the USA, Canada, and Australia. It assesses the fundamental knowledge, skills, and competencies required to deliver safe and effective nursing care across various age groups and healthcare environments.
NCLEX Requirements: NCLEX RN vs NCLEX PN
To qualify for the NCLEX-PN exam, candidates must first graduate from an approved practical or vocational nursing program. After graduation, they need to obtain Authorization to Test (ATT) from their nursing regulatory body (NRB). Once approved, they can register for the exam.
For the NCLEX-RN exam, candidates must graduate from a registered nursing program. Following completion, they must apply to their NRB for ATT approval. Upon receiving authorization, they may proceed with the NCLEX-RN exam registration.

NCLEX Exam Preparation
Exam Content
The NCLEX assesses nursing knowledge, client health needs (where "client" refers to an individual, family, or group), and integrated processes such as clinical judgment, communication, and documentation. Both the RN and PN exams are designed to focus on client needs and prioritize higher-order thinking skills. If a client’s age isn’t mentioned in a question, assume the client is an adult.Exam Development
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) updates the NCLEX test plan every three years through a formal practice analysis. In addition, an ongoing Continuous Practice Analysis helps validate the relevance of current exam content. Nursing educators, known as item writers, develop test questions, which are then reviewed by panels of practicing nurses. All items are pretested to ensure they meet NCSBN’s statistical criteria before they are officially scored.Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT)
The NCLEX is delivered using Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), which adjusts question difficulty based on the candidate’s responses. This approach allows for a more precise assessment using fewer questions. Pretest items remain unscored until their difficulty levels have been statistically confirmed.NCLEX Preparation
Candidates receive guidance on how to approach test questions and can access a tutorial before exam day to familiarize themselves with the format and tools.
